Marshall Percussion

Marshallbeats.com is home to the Marshall Percussion program of Marshall, MN.   Throughout the year, some fifty students from the Marshall School District participate in a variety of percussion ensembles, including the Marshall Tiger Marching Band Percussion Section, Tiger Groove Winter Drumline, the annual Beats concert, as well as the Marshall Middle School Marching Band Drumline and the Middle School Winter Line.

Marshall Tiger Marching Band Percussion Section

The Marshall Tiger Marching Band Percussion Section consists of the Battery and Front Ensemble of the Marshall Tiger Marching Band, a competitive organization containing over 200 students from grades 9 – 12 at Marshall High School.  The group practices daily from the beginning of August until the end of October and competes throughout the Midwest, including the Bands of America Super-Regional in St. Louis.  In 2009, a total of 32 students participated in the group, which earned Top Percussion honors at several competitions.

Tiger Groove

The Tiger Groove Drumline is a group of Marshall High School percussionists that meets bi-weekly from December until April.  The purpose of the ensemble is to provide entertainment at various events throughout the winter and spring, including high school and college basketball games, gymnastics meets, wrestling meets, etc.  The 2010 Tiger Groove includes five tenor players, nine snares, twelve bass drums, and six taiko drums.

BEATS

BEATS is an annual concert put on by all of the students participating in the Marshall Percussion Program.  BEATS provides students an opportunity to showcase their aptitude in a variety of percussive styles and features state of the art visual effects courtesy of the Schwan’s Center for the Performing Arts.   The BEATS concerts this year will be held the 1st weekend in April.  The theme for BEATS ’11 is “Beat Street.”

Middle School

Students in grades 5-8 have access to several ensembles within the Marshall Percussion Program.  During the summer, students can participate in the Marshall Area Middle School Marching Band Drumline.  The Marshall Area Middle School Marching Band rehearses several times throughout the months of June and July and participates in various parades before the start of the school year.  With the start of the winter percussion season, middle school students can audition for the Middle School Winter Line.  This ensemble rehearses weekly and performs at several sporting events, as well as the BEATS concert.
